Trip to the Children's Museum

Vacation with the Daughertys!
We had an amazing week in Hilton Head with Trav's parents last week. Aden was in love with the ocean and the beach and Owen did such a great job adjusting to a new place and schedule. We spent a lot of time with Trav's Aunt Jill and cousins, Summer and Jordan, and were able to see Savannah, GA and many parts of Hilton Head as well. Trav and I are so blessed to have a wonderful little family, and extended family too. God is good!

Bittersweet...
I have to say our first home has been absolutely perfect! Right from the day we moved in this home has been an amazing one and we have been so blessed! It's crazy to imagine living and making a home somewhere new- but we are excited for God to unveil His plan and show us what's next. Travis and I both have taken new jobs closer to Indy and our church as well. We are very excited to relocate there and finally have a sense of community where we live. Up to this point we have commuted to jobs, church, friends- everything! We're looking forward to what's ahead.
All that said...it's hard not to be sad about saying goodbye to Anderson and our first home. This place holds so many memories for us, college, dating, wedding, both our boys, family and friends. Please pray for us as we make this next transition in our lives- it's going to be an adventure!

We had a great time at the Farmers' this week, hanging out and spending time with friends we haven't seen for awhile. We were pumped to get to spend time with Jon and Amy, while they're home from Cali. It was funny to see the "baby fest" that has become our lives- but so good to watch everyone's kids playing and having fun together. It got us all very excited for summer...can't get here soon enough!

I am definitely a little busier this time around and to add to the distraction of having a two year old as well as a newborn our camera broke soon after Owen was born. Needless to say, I don't have as many pictures of little Owie as I'd like- but this adorable shot was captured via cell phone (thank you Verizon!). I can't believe how big he's gotten, it seems so much faster than Aden did. His cheeks are my absolute favorite, I just love to smooch them. He's 6 weeks now and completely adapted to our little Daugherty routine. He is a wonderful baby and I am enjoying every second of being a mommy for another little boy. We finally got another camera so I'll be sure to play some catch up with picture taking...I'm sure he'll love it! ha ha!

More Easter

Easter Easter Everywhere!
Easter was definitely more eventful this year. Aden actually understood how to run around and grab eggs (even from his cousins' baskets!) and open them to find candy and other treasures! It was really fun to wake him up to his first real Easter basket like I remembered doing as a kid. The funny part was trying to explain why the Easter Bunny came to give him toys when we were really celebrating Jesus. I'm sure many parents before me have traveled that road, but I have to say my sorry attempt at an explanation was quite hilarious. Travis got a kick out of it anyway! Unfortunately Owen couldn't quite enjoy the egg hunt yet, but he did get some adorable jammies from Nanna and liked being held by every aunt, uncle, or cousin in the room! It was a very nice day. We felt very blessed and were reminded of God's love in so many ways.

Easter Egg Hunt
We headed to Gaither Family Resources this morning for the annual Easter egg hunt. There were a ton of little kids and thanks to Aunt Amber's genius it went SOO much better than last year. (When we found ourselves barricading one egg for Aden to try and pick up while the older kids trampled the younger ones!) This year they had areas designated for different age groups and Aden was loving the fact that there were plenty of eggs to grab and put in his, of course, basketball basket. It was a beautiful day and a fun memory. More pictures to come of our boys tomorrow on Easter...blessings!

Nanna and Bumpa's Visit

Nanna and Bumpa and Claire came this week on their way home from North Carolina. They were excited to meet our newest addition and we had such a great visit. Aden and Claire were two peas in a pod and played all day long. We had beautiful weather and all got to hang out in the yard and take a long walk to the park. Ahhh...when will spring be here?! We love you Nanna, Bumpa, and Claire. Can't wait to see you again soon!!

Well, it has officially begun. Thank you to Uncle Trev for letting me know I'd originally titled the post below as "Aden's first photoshoot". Goodness! You'd think after living a life known as: Heather, Jennee, Brittany, and even sometimes Eric- I'd be super careful about this, but as you see there's no hope! Aden will be called Owen and Owen will be Aden without a doubt. Maybe I could have made it easier on myself by making the names a little more different, that likeness can't be helping my cause! Such is life boys...you'll survive I'm sure!!

Uncle Cliff shared his gift with us today, he is such an amazing photographer and we are so lucky to have him around (for many reasons!). I know I'm partial, but I just LOVE these pictures he took. Owen is 10 days old and it feels as if he's been around forever! There have been multiple times this week where Trav and I have been cuddled up on the couch with Aden and Owen and just looked at eachother- and without words, recognized the perfection of these moments. God is so good and we are incredibly blessed by Him. We have also talked often of how blessed we are to have so many around to love and support us, which has been more clear in the last week than ever. Thank you...all. We love you! The Daughertys.

Monday, March 2nd, 2009...Happy Birthday Owen Richard Daugherty

What an amazing day. All I can say is the Lord is amazing and experiencing the miracle of birth for the second time, in a somewhat more "calm and collected" manner (we'll say) gave me the chance to truly appreciate Him. We got to the hospital on Monday morning around 5:00 were taken to room 9...and shown our lovely accommodations for the week. Everyone at the hospital was fantastic and I was super excited to see Nancy, our FAVORITE nurse from Aden's visit there. She took care of us and got us all ready for our surgery. Surgery started at 7:35 or so and he was born at 7:59...amazing huh! Everything went really well and the doctor's were super encouraged by how well I'd healed from Aden's section- which felt nice and assured us a third will be no problem! Hooray! (Not that I'm thinking of that AT ALL right now!)

We had a wonderful week with our baby boy and big brother Aden was thrilled to have him around, outside of mom's belly of course! The first thing he said when we brought Owen out was, "Baby Owen Cute!". He was so great about sharing his toys and giving kisses...I loved watching him!

My mom was there for every second and helped tremendously at the hospital, while Trav's mom tag teamed and watched our sweet Aden and ran all over when we needed her. We couldn't have done it without them. We had lots of fun visitors too, Aunt Heather came from Michigan to welcome our boy, our Ritchey family came to play, and Aunt Mandy and Uncle Mick were there to welcome baby Owen. Uncle Mick even brought him his first Rickers ...ha ha, empty of course! Aunt Mimi (Mindy) came and snuggled too, along with the Bennisons, Galemas, Eastmans, Zarses, Nanna Hosier, and Stephanie from school. It was a wonderful week and we felt incredibly blessed! I'm getting long winded and need to tend to some fellas, so I'm going to end by saying THANK YOU! Thank you for all of your love and prayers, meals, and cards, sweet presents and endless support. We are forever grateful for you all and what you mean to us, and now to our newest addition. God is good!

My amazing 4th graders made me a quilt this past week as part of a going away party/shower they threw for Owen and I. They also spoiled us with a gift card to Baby Gap and Old Navy. Don't worry, I've already spent them and bought Owen the most adorable little outies ever! It is so bittersweet to say goodbye to these kiddos. We have have a wonderful year together and they have become so special to me. Just look how grown up they seem...it's amazing! God is good, and I am blessed to love my job like I do.

A little over a month left...

I thought I should post some belly pics for my friends and family far away, so they can see my ever growing belly! I'm definitely carrying little Owen high and feel like I can barely breath at times, but he's healthy and strong and we are so thrilled to meet him. A little over a month left to go...we can't wait. Aden is also getting really excited and little by little "getting it" more. He now likes to bring toys to my belly and ask if Owen wants to play. He really likes to give kisses too! I am so excited to see my two little boys together, we are in for quite a whirlwind I'm sure! Love you all...keep you posted.

Aden's new play kitchen from Gaga and Grandpa Nordby was a true hit!

Aden wrote his own little note to Santa, complete with cookies and milk. Yumm!

We had so much fun making cookies, although some may have had more sprinkles than others...maybe very little cookie compared to sprinkles! ha ha!

I'm finally getting some pics up here from Christmas morning. It's amazing how much better I was at keeping up on this while I was home over break. I guess life just gets so busy, it's hard to keep it all going! We had a WONDERFUL Christmas with Aden. He was really into all the traditional Christmas fun, like decorating cookies, visiting Santa, opening presents...all of it. We were amazed how much different it all seemed watching through his eyes. Being a child is truly a wonderous thing, we are so lucky to have our little guy.

Second Time Around...Success?

So in comparison to the earlier post of Aden's visit to see Santa after Thanksgiving, last night's second round went much better. Still no smile, but no tears! I just love the look he has on his face here... clearly an "I'm up here, what more do you want from me?"look. Really the only reason he's truly sitting on Mr. Clause's lap is because he gave him a sucker...pretty much Aden will do anything for a sucker- but hey, bribery can't be all bad, right?

Winter/Christmas Fun

He really understands so much more than last year and I now get how different holidays are with children, it's the magic that returns and we are so lucky to experience it again through his eyes. Second time around...

Daugherty Boy #2 Pregnant Mommy-27 Weeks
So, all the hopes of being the girl who barely gains a pound the second time around...are out the window! I definitely feel like I'm carrying this boy the same as I did Aden, and absolutely growing just as fast or faster! So far I've been pretty lucky in my pregnancies. This little guy brought on quite a different first trimester, I was much more sick than with Aden. But since we've graduated to the 2nd and now getting into the third I've felt a ton better. I have zero energy at the end of the day, but I guess a class of 10 year olds from 8-4 and then a 2 year old at home can do that to you. He's moving a lot now and I am absolutely falling in love with yet again another Daugherty boy! Funny story- the other day I was asking Aden about the baby in mommy's tummy and he said, "play wit baby momma" and I replied, "we can't play with baby yet Aden, momma needs to cook him a little longer". Well, what I got on the other end of that was absolutely the funniest face I've ever seen. He was completely confused, and rightfully so...gosh mom what are you trying to do to the kid?! He LOVES, I mean LOVES to cook and as soon as I said that he tried to connect the two, and of course could not. I tried to straighten that one out the best I could, but I'm just hoping now it doesn't have any kind of lasting affect on how he views his new little brother. Ha ha ha, raising a toddler is always a blast.
So, on an ending note- today just happens to be Thanksgiving and I want to give a quick note to God and say I am so amazingly blessed to have a beautiful growing, healthy family, family support and love all around me, a job that I adore, and wonderful friends to share it all with. I hope you all experience the meaning of thanksgiving today and soak up the time with your loved ones.

Chuck E. Cheese

Last weekend we experienced, for the first time, Chuck E. Cheese from a parent's perspective. Who would have known?! That place is a zoo! Aden had a good time for sure, but man- Trav and I were whooped by the time we left that place and I have truly never seen so many "characters" under one roof in my life. What an adventure. I'm sure we'll have many more experiences with the good ol' Chuck...but for now- I don't mind waiting a bit for our next chance.

Halloween

We had a really fun Halloween with our little skunk (costume thanks to mommy and nanna...yes folks-homemade! Are you completely surprised?!) and his newfound interest in CANDY! He's been obsessed with suckers and filling his little pumpkin with candy was, I think, one of his favorite games yet. He has been really into pumpkins too...or "punkies" as he calls them, so carving one with daddy and mommy was a blast. He didn't really enjoy the guts so much, but had fun pretending to cook with his big spoon, stirring the insides around. We had a great visit with Nanna and Bumpa Kingsbury and Aunt Claire. We joined our Ritchey family and the Hosiers of course and headed to Alexandria for a few stops with grandparents and family. Overall it was a very busy night, and a great memory. Our little boy is growing up so quickly and we are absolutely in love with each day we have with him. We never knew how much joy one little person could bring!

I will try to scan our newest ultrasound pictures, but we found out a couple weeks ago that we are on our way to boy #2! I have joked, although somewhat seriously at times, that I am certain I'll have my starting 5 before we have a little girl join our family...but I guess we'll just have to see! We are so, so excited to have another healthy boy to chase around, and I know Aden will be a wonderful big brother. He is incredibly cute about it all and likes to point out the "baby in momma's lelly" as he says it, adding a kiss as well! SO fun! We've had a wonderful summer and are all adjusting to being back in "school mode". Aden is getting to be such a big boy and has more words to share every day. Annual 926 College Reunion- Arizona

Last week we traveled west to celebrate Jeff Whye's wedding. We decided to also lump it into our second annual 926 reunion and it was AMAZING to see everyone (well except our Hanlons-which can not be replaced!). It always seems as if we pick up right where we've left off and Trav and I thank God for such wonderful friends to share our lives with. This is truly a one of a kind group and although it started with the seven original 926 fellas, I have to say I think the ladies have added our own spice to this group as well. On that note... welcome, officially, Mrs. Nicky Whye to our irreplaceable group! I can't wait for another chance to see you all. We love you so, so much!!

Playing Catch Up!

I'm a little behind with our blog so I thought I'd post a few random pictures of our boy and some springtime fun! The end of the school year has been a blur, but we are full on into summer now and absolutely loving it! Aden, Trav, and I have had a lot of fun this week hanging out at home, grilling on the porch, swimming in Nanna and Papaw's pool and being lazy! We are so lucky to have the jobs we do that allow us to be together over the summer, we feel really blessed to have this time as a family. We are planning a couple of trips this summer, one to Arizona for Uncle Jeff's wedding, and another to Las Vegas for a basketball tournament that Trav's player is involved in. Other than that we are looking forward to lazy summer days. We love you all and miss you- wherever you are. Hope you are enjoying the sunshine as much as we are!

Spring Break- West Palm Beach

We spent last week in Florida with Aunt Amber, Uncle Cliff and cousins Cove and Bella, visiting Mimi and Papi Daugherty. We had a great vacation! The weather was beautiful and we were all soaking up the sunshine and warm temps. Aden LOVED swimming in the pool and taking long walks. He wasn't so sure about the ocean and waves though, daddy tried to get him used to them but he was pretty stubborn and decided he'd save his swimming for pool time instead. We had a wonderful, and much needed, vacation and are praying the warm weather will soon be here in Indiana. Oh what sunshine does for the soul!

Aden had a perfect first birthday party! He had a house full of family and friends to celebrate with and a very yummy chocolate cake that at one time looked like a really cute monkey...and then not so much! Don't be fooled into thinking this picture shows the extent of it, let me tell you it got much worse. I was literally getting chocolate out of his belly button the next day (after two baths!) Wow- is this my kid or what?! Nothing beats a birthday...and lots of chocolate! Happy to ya Aden!!

A year ago today...

As I sit here trying to create the most perfect and well worded paragraph to describe the impact a year ago today had on our lives, I am stumped for where to begin. There are not enough paragraphs to fit on this blog that could shed a glimpse of what we feel for our little Aden. The kind of love we've found as parents can only be explained as a glimmer of what God must feel for us. The life of a child is nothing short of a blessing that God has given to us to have an understanding, if possible, of the depth and breadth of His eternal love for us and desire to be loved in return. We feel thankful for that blessing every day we wake up and hold our little boy in our arms. He brings joy, laughter, peace, expectation and so many things that are not easily explained. We are thankful for amazing parents in our own lives who have loved us beyond words and now do the same for their grandchild. To say our lives were changed by 'a year ago today' would be less than adequate. We will never be the same.

Aden's First Easter Egg Hunt

Aden experienced his first "wild" egg hunt at Gaither's last Saturday. He was very excited to hunt for his first egg...although we had to set up a blockade to protect our little egg. Monday night was a very exciting one, that's for sure! Trav's team has worked so hard this season, and despite injuries and other hardships they fought for the sectional victory! Trav was, clearly, very excited and is busy preparing his team and coaching staff for the regionals Saturday. We'll keep you posted...

A Birthday Party!

Aden's little buddy, Jacob Juntgen, turned one this week and we had a great time at his party! Jake's mommy Megan and I teach together and were pregnant all last year together. We were actually due on the same day and little Jake decided he was ready a bit earlier than Aden was! They've already had a lot of fun adventures together and I can't wait to watch them grow! We had such a blast at the Indianapolis Children's Museum yesterday! We went with Aunt Amber, Uncle Cliff, and Cousins Cove and Bella. Aden loved the toddler play space with tunnels and ramps to climb on. He wasn't so sure about the dinosaur exhibit, but enjoyed watching Cove dress up as a dinosaur! We were all pretty wiped out after we were done- but it was a great memory!

Aden's First Newspaper Interview!

Aden is getting so big, and we are loving all the new things he can do. He's crawling all over the place and loves to play "chase". He throws his little ball, which of course his daddy has taught him the exact form, and chases it across the house! He's pulling himself up on all standing, or not standing for that matter, objects. He's eating big boy foods, he LOVES pancakes! He's keeping us busy- that's for sure! We can't even believe he's getting close to his first birthday, but it's right around the corner. What an amazing 11 months we've already had, we cannot wait to see what's to come!

What a New Years!

Well our exciting night of celebrating quickly changed when poor Aden got a cold, an earache, and a stomach bug all at the same time! He was a mess and we knew it was best to bring in 2008 together at home this year. So...our awesome friends the Hosiers picked up our favorite, Texas Roadhouse cuisine and spent the evening with us here at home. They are such good friends to us! We had a great night, spent with the ladies dominating Euker, and yes the men won catch phrase. (Although I think it had to be in part due to the fact that Mick had memorized almost all of the phrases...but we'll leave that one alone!) Happy 2008!

A visit from the Hanlons

Last weekend we got to see our good friends Andy, L.A., and Mabry Hanlon. They were visiting from Florida and Aden was so excited to see his little friend again after a long 5 months! We got to spend a vacation at the beach with them last summer and we missed them very much!Here are some pictures of our sweet Aden and Mabry. Who knows...future love??? Aden's First Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas! We were able to see all of our family, both in Michigan as well as Indiana. Aden visited with lots of cousins and even his new Aunt Claire (2 1/2 years old!) He was spoiled rotten of course, and of all things fell in love with his Mountie Tyrone (of Nickelodeon's Back Yardigans!) the most. He also really enjoyed the shiny ribbons! I think we could have saved grandmas and grandpas a lot of money if we'd known that beforehand! It is amazing how magical holidays become with a child to share them with. We are so, so blessed to have our little man! We hope you all had a magical Christmas as well and experienced Christ's love!

Tipton Basketball Season

Well it's been an awesome season so far. Trav's team is 7-0 and playing so well. They're a great group of guys and he really enjoys coaching them. He has high hopes for this season and its fun to watch him get so pumped up! Aden really loves watching the games too, he doesn't take his eyes off the floor!
